COMMUNITY OVERVIEW

Wynantskill is located on the eastern edge of New York State's Capital District. In the County of Rensselaer and town of North Greenbush, Wynantskill borders the eastern edge of Troy, NY on the banks of the Hudson River. It is a 15-minute drive to Albany, the capital of New York State.

The Capital District region is well known for its institutes of higher education. These include: Albany college of Pharmacy, Albany Law School, Albany Medical College, College of St. Rose, Empire State College, Hudson Valley Community College, Maria College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Russell Sage College, Schenectady County Community College, Siena College, Skidmore College, State University of New York at Albany, Union College and Williams College (MA).

The Capital District, with a population of approximately one million, offers peacefulness of the countryside on one side of the Hudson River and the excitement of Albany's urban life on the other. Excellent recreational and cultural activities are available. Wintertime activities excel with major ski areas located nearby. In the summer, sporting and cultural activities abound.

A little more than a half-hour drive to the north is the Saratoga Spa State Park. The 2,000 acre park houses mineral water springs and baths, a spouting geyser, Spa Summer Theater, golf courses and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC). Also in Saratoga is the famous Saratoga Race Track, a favorite of thoroughbred horse-racing enthusiasts from around the world.

The Pepsi Arena in Albany hosts sports and entertainment for the region. The Houston Fieldhouse, on the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute campus in Troy, is home to the RPI Engineers ice hockey team. The Troy Music Hall, world renowned for acoustical perfection, provides year-round concert life in the city.

Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony, and the Williamstown Playhouse, located at Williams college, are within 45-minute drives. It is also a short drive from Wynantskill to the Adirondacks, the Helderbergs and the Green Mountains.
