Regeneron Employees Lead STEM Activities

Students enjoy STEM activity

Pre-K through grade 4 enjoyed fun, hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities on Oct. 28 thanks to Regeneron.

Each year, the biotechnology company holds a Day for Doing Good, a company-wide global day of service to give back to communities.

A group of employees visited Gardner-Dickinson to lead students through engaging activities such as building geodesic domes from toothpicks and gumdrops and making bubbling lava lamps. Students had fun while learning about science principles such as density, magnetism and chemical reactions.

Thank you so much for spending the day with our students!

Fire Prevention Day

Firefighter with student

The Wynantskill Fire Department helped students stay safe Oct. 9 as they visited Gardner-Dickinson School for the annual Fire Prevention Day.

The morning started with a fire drill, which firefighters complimented students for evacuating the school so quickly. Firefighters then shared safety reminders such as having a home safety plan, the importance of having working smoke alarms, and how to stop, drop and roll.

Thank you for visiting our school and helping keep our students safe!

Students Get Creative With Help from Guest

Students write

Students were excited to create their own stories and art Sept. 26 when guest Tammy Robinson, founder and managing editor of Skribblers Magazine Inc., visited Gardner-Dickinson.

Ms. Robinson explained how students could submit stories and artwork to the magazine, which features work by students. She then led sessions where students brainstormed and started writing stories or drew pictures.

Thank you for encouraging our students’ creativity today!

3rd Graders Investigate Magnetic Force

Students investigate magnets

Third graders investigated magnetic force in science by collecting data on how far a paperclip needed to be before it was attracted to a magnet.

Students recorded their data and will compare it to other data they will collect to see if multiple magnets have a stronger force.

Food Allergy Information for Families

Food allergies graphic

Dear Gardner-Dickinson families,

To help ensure a healthy and safe environment for all our students, we want to let parents know that homemade snacks will no longer be allowed for school parties or as shared snacks. We are sorry for any inconvenience but food allergies impact almost every grade in our school and this precaution will help keep our students safe.

If you would like to send snacks to be shared, please send store bought items that are sealed and have an ingredient label so we can check for possible food allergies. You may still send homemade treats in with your student for lunch as long as they are not shared items. The exception to this would be if a child with a severe allergy has been identified in your child’s classroom.

If your child has a food-related allergy or sensitivity, please make sure to let School Nurse Tricia Gibbs know by calling 518-283-4600 ext. 18. Ms. Gibbs can also answer any questions you may have.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience but food allergies are a serious and potentially life-threatening medical condition. One in 13 children in the United States has a food allergy. Every three minutes, a food allergy reaction sends someone to the emergency room in this country. Please help us create a positive school environment for our students where they feel safe.

Sincerely,

Dr. Thomas Reardon
Superintendent
